Warley Road is the current project of the 7mm Group of the Club. This is a long term project, due to the complexity of the layout, and it is expected to be another three to four years before the layout is brought to a condition where it can be exhibited.
The layout was planned for us by Barry Norman, writer of many books and articles on layout design. The plan is based on Berkeley Road, the former LMS Station between Gloucester and Bristol, and junction for the Great Western Branch across the Severn Bridge to the Forest of Dean. As such the layout encompasses the majority of the groups interests, that is in the railways of the LMSR and GWR and successor regions of British Railways.
Progress on the layout was held up due to constraints of the old Club Rooms, but in our new facility the layout is permanently erected and work proceeds every week.
The plan itself is in the form of a looped figure of eight giving all round viewing with the facility to run lengthy express trains and freight traffic coupled with the branch trains with an extensive fiddle yard under the scenery. Realistic gradients will make for interesting operation and will be testing for the locomotives employed!
Control of the layout is to be by DCC.
