Temple Dean ( N Gauge)
Click on pictures below to view larger image
Sheltered by the cliffs of a limestone gorge at the edge of scenic high moors, Temple Dean is a mainline junction with a sedate branch which twists away into the uplands. Goods trains can be held in the loop as expresses pass and a small yard serves local commerce. Overhead electrification has come to the mainline but the financial returns from the branch clearly did not justify such expenditure.
Club members have grown to
anticipate exhibitions with pleasure since Temple Dean is very enjoyable
to operate. Storage yards allow ten trains to be available for quick despatch.
It is rare to see nothing moving on Temple Dean, yet it is not a simple tail
chaser but intended to reflect real rail practices from 1960 to the present. The
original design was found to be so effective that minor renovation in 2001 has
given us a layout that still looks and operates well.
A welcome is
always extended to interested observers so it is not uncommon for children (of
all ages!) to find themselves around the back operating with club members - an
unexpected pleasure for these exhibition visitors!
