Broom Junction ( O Gauge)

Broom Junction was the Warley MRC ‘O’ Gauge Group’s follow up to the highly successful Porth-y-Waen layout which was taken over from our President, John Allison and refurbished.

Broom is constructed from C & L Finescale trackwork with a very complex outside single slip as the centrepiece of most activities and the whole layout is some 53 feet long.  The location is where the former L.M.S. (Midland) line from Birmingham to Ashchurch meets the Stratford-upon-Avon and Midland Junction line at Broom in Warwickshire and is depicted in the mid to late 1930’s

Track layout and buildings are faithful to the original with only a little foreshortening of the sidings where trains were marshaled for onward transmission to and from St.Pancras over the S & M J R, to Birmingham over the  Midland and to South Wales  over the Midland and GWR lines .

The layout is permanently erected in the clubroom for members to run their stock on and is undergoing some scenic restoration to bring it back up to pristine condition.  Although officially retired the group might just be persuaded to bring it out for a special occasion.

The layout featured in the October 1995 issue of Railway Modeller & has made the long trek to Bremen.

LMS class 3F departs with an empty banana train.  Having run round the train after bringing it in via the S & M J R, which can be seen behind it adjacent to the signal box, it will soon pass the jinty in the lay by sidings whilst on its way to South Wales.
